Last Minute Decisions.
How do you wing it when it comes down to the crunch?
Let’s pretend that you are not prepared for an exhibition. Let’s also pretend that this could have come about out of any number of things beyond your control. What do you do?
Communication is key: Communicate with the people involved in the show, whether that be curators, other artists, gallerists, etc. Own up to the fact that you are not prepared for the exhibit.
Offer solutions on how you would like to move forward.
Ask for support in the form of suggestions on how others may feel comfortable moving forward with you.
Listen to how the other folks would like to move forward and how they would like to support you moving forward.
Take a deep breath.
Consider the range in which you are able to commit at this last minute juncture. Do you need to cancel or reschedule? Do you need to edit what you planned on; exhibiting fewer, higher quality pieces?
Consider the time and effort others have put forward, how can you express/show gratitude while also stepping back if necessary.
Remember to remain professional. While no one is perfect and sometimes things are beyond our control, the most important thing to winging it is to do so with grace.
Kind wishes,
Wylie
HOT TIP: Holiday Season is upon us, the final push before the new year. How are you going to support your local artists?
Here are a few ways to do so:
1. Purchase their art.
2. Share their art on social media with links on where others can find it.
3. Venmo them $5 to buy them a cup of coffee or hot cocoa
