UPCOMING ARTIST RESOURCES BY MONTH

MARCH

CREATIVE CAPITAL GRANT CYCLE 2023/2024- Artists are invited to propose innovative new projects for the Creative Capital Awards in the following areas (projects will be evaluated by external reviewers with expertise in the qualifying fields). We invite artists to submit their proposals based on which area experts are most suited and qualified to review the project proposal, with the understanding that radical art is often by nature interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, or antidisciplinary. By choosing to apply within a certain disciplinary category, we are asking you to choose how you want to frame the discussion around your work and to indicate which experts are most qualified to evaluate your project proposal.
March 1 to April 1, 2022: Letter of Inquiries (LOI) accepted

Studio in the Woods, New Orleans- Rising: Climate in Crisis Residencies at A Studio in the Woods invite artists to face the severity of the climate crisis and be agents of change to guide our collective understanding, response, and vision as we shape our shared future. New Orleans and the inhabitants of our region are frequently invoked as some of the most vulnerable to the effects of environmental degradation. While sea levels, temperatures and emotions are rising, our highly manipulated landscape can be seen as a microcosm of the global environment, manifesting both the reckoning and hope which are required in the ways humans interact with shifting urban and natural ecosystems. As the climate crisis permeates the collective understanding of the future, the challenges faced by Southern Louisiana resonate exponentially. We look to artists to ignite our imaginations, illuminate our challenges, and offer new ways to examine the world. Rising Residencies will provide artists with time, space, scholarship and staff support to foster critical thinking and creation of new works. The call is open to artists of all disciplines who have demonstrated an established dialogue with environmental and culturally related issues and a commitment to seeking and plumbing new depths. We ask artists to describe in detail how the region will affect their work, to propose a public component to their residency and to suggest ways in which they will engage with the local community.Recipients receive a $3000 stipend and $2000 materials budget.
Deadline: March 10

Soaring Gardens Residency- Soaring Gardens Artists Retreat in Laceyville, PA, offers visual artists, writers, composers, and instrumentalists a quiet country setting for two- to five-week residencies to focus on their creative endeavors. Spaces are available from mid-May to mid-September. Soaring Gardens has no fees, makes no demands, and there are no intrusions from the administration—only the studios, gardens, deer, other creatures, and time.

The residency is located in a farmhouse with an adjacent studio building and in a small nearby church. At any time, there are only a few artists in residence—usually three or four at the farmhouse and two at the church. Since residents share the living spaces, we encourage artists to apply as a group (a combination of artistic disciplines is fine), although applications from individuals are also welcome.
Deadline: March 10

Wallis Annenberg Helix Fellowship- Leave the studio and classroom behind and come outside on the Wallis Annenberg Helix Fellowship: a fresh, revolutionary approach to cultural history. Helix is an immersive, transdisciplinary, mobile residency that transforms artists and scholars into cultural archaeologists on the borderlands of Eastern and Central Europe.

Now entering its tenth year, the Helix Fellowship is one of the world’s leading intercultural arts and culture residencies. Unfolding over two calendar years, the Fellowship explores and celebrates the intersections where marginalized cultures, languages, and peoples meet and cross.

Over the course of the residency, fellows immerse themselves in regions that for centuries sustained vibrant, dynamic, interconnected multiethnic civilization before the genocidal devastation of the twentieth century. Helix then seeds, supports, and sustains new creative work inspired by the themes and figures that fellows encounter together. Our creative community emboldens artists and scholars to imagine, articulate, and endeavor toward a world that embraces difference and elevates artistic output.

Deadline: March 10

No experience with clay or cast metal is required, just an interest in pursuing a new body of work and being open to new ideas. Arts/Industry residencies are three months in length and divided into three cohorts. There are four artists-in-residence in each cohort—two in Pottery and two in Foundry. Residents are expected to commit to the full three-month period.
